Shiny Happy
Easter, as I learned it, is when the Christian church celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion.
There are many customs associated with this celebration. Decorating eggs is one custom. Just as Jesus rose from the tomb, the egg symbolizes new life emerging from the eggshell.
Another custom is the Easter bunny. Long ago, he was called the "Easter Hare." Hares and rabbits have frequent babies so they became a symbol of fertility.
I also have to mention Eastre or Ishtar, the Pagan goddess of spring.
My question, with all this religion and marking of rebirth, why is Easter candy SO evil?
Seriously, how can anyone resist all the bright packaging of Easter candy? It is so cheerful and happy. It calls you. Hey, check me out, look at how pretty and happy I am. I am Spring, come eat me.
Easter candy also has the best variety. Brach's Bird Eggs (aka, Jellybeans) and Cadbury eggs top my list. Of course, we have all the usual suspects reoutfitted for the occasion. I am not usually a pastel person but I am a sucker for the mini peppermint patties in their new bright shiny clothes.
